Admins University

Dear all,  I invented the school for admins - "Admins University", so that we can gather and exchange experiences with our sites. This is a chance to add to the success of our company and a great chance for personal development. The main areas would be communication with users, content rating and page development . The material that we gather to create - Guide for administrators - would be our collective work.  How it could work? It should be a discussion on various topics, sharing our daily experiences on the sites... It would be Learning From Play, because it encourages social growth, language growth, problem solving, and imagination. Please do not take it too much seriously and remember that all of us are students :) I personally see it as a challenge. Eg. understanding why some users are not willing to cooperat with others, at giving us the opportunity to understand them and respond properly, because our intention is not to punish them, but that in our site have found a place that appreciates. What I perceive as the reason why I want to learn more about these things is that it helps me better and to behave in everyday life. I believe that you will discover (if you have it not appear) that motivation for learning.  So let's get it started...:) I wish you a good day and hope to hear from you very soon.

Our first topic is - New users (Rookies). What is the most frequent problem rookies have? Please share your experience. How did you feel when you first came on any social network? Did you have any problems? Let me start... When I first came on Modrastrecha.sk, my avatar was deleted, my first photoblog was deleted, I felt confused, because I didn't know the reason. it was obviously my mistake, I didn't read site rules. :-D When I opened my first topic people started to attack me, what's a stupid topic :-) I think, a normal user after this experience would leave website. It's not what we want :-) How should we treat rookies? I look forward to your opinions.

Hm.. I don´t know... so the first forum ever I entered was brautpunkt.de .. and there have not been many users at that time, for it was quite new, which of course I didn´t know, Sami was very helpful, because as I never had been in a forum i also didn´t know how to upload or download items.. soon I knew more or less all the other users that have been in the forum at that time - äh and of course I didn´t read the rules neither ;-) Hm what problems do my brides have? Actually they usually just have problems if something is not working.. like the uploading, or the post a picture with their partner, because they also didn´t read the rules. And I must say the other brides are always very nice and warmly welcoming new users, there are always some nice comments if someone posts she is new in the forum.. so quite nice atmosphere - actually created of course by the nice surrounding of the site..

@martinjasen and @claire_100: Martin, thanks for welcoming us to "University" - as you know I am still a student myself so I'm very willing to learn also in this university. I think that this 1st topic about new users is very relevant as it is crucial what kind of "1st impression" a user has of our site, the other users and of us admins... The first 2 things are - as Claire already said - all fine and I think we also do quite a good job welcoming the new users (e.g. writing a personal welcoming mail etc...). However it could be useful / practical for the new users to have a place on the site where they can get useful tips for rookies and at the same time introduce themselves to the community - I think, Martin, that you already plan such a section for new users? Because I think that this would be great to have! Why? I see that many newly registered users do not comment or put any photos because they might be a bit afraid of reactions from the community - such a "new user section" (e.g,. in the Forum) could help to "break the ice" and get them started to actively contribute rather than just read/look through the other's fotoblogs and forum threads...

@samuelito @martinjasen yes but some of them need just a little bit of time, a lot of them start reading the forum for quite some weeks and then they decide they want to join. and them some immediatly write, some a bit later.. like today.. alegria77 .. she is registrated much longer but now her wedding comes nearer she decided to participate. Some might also save their identity (even if it´s brautpunkt -still we are in the internet) - you know - I for example would never have posted personal pictures as a "normal" user.. and i don´t use my real name.. I think that is also a reason for a lot of brides NOT to post.. and time makes some of them change their mind. On the other hand some of them might think it´s too early to post their albums etc.. because their wedding is in 2012 .. and they start to post therefore later.. As I think these are the two main points - I am not sure, if a "rookies-item" might change it THAT much.. but maybe it´s worth a try.. ;-) but I think what our brides here in the german forum would wish most, would be a Chat-function.. ;-)
