I know it's bad but sometimes i can't help but feel very cynical about some people's engagements sometimes. Am i just the only one?
meeeshelnope - some people just do it because others are - my H2B's cousing was really envious when we got engaged and was a right bitch when she finally had to speak to me about it - now 6 months later they've got engaged and everyone is like, oh what a surprise? she probably bulied him into it and i think it's quite sad really, it should be about finding the person you want to spend the rest of your life with and not just wanting that ring and that day!

I think some people just think oh thats a romantic idea then get engaged but don't really mean it at all or realise that thats a promise to marry someone. It just annoys me that people don't see it as forever. So many people have been engaged that i know and then just broken up- think they're missing the point. First thing my h2bs friend said to him after we got engaged was 'it will be me next' he's already been engaged and they hadnt even known each other long at all! Sorry cynical rant over
essex_brideNot at all, My sister in law to be has just started dating this new guy, She has been so desperate to be in a relationship after hers ended a year or so ago. They have been going out for a little over two weeks and she is already talking about marriage, that she thinks he will be buying her an engagement ring for Xmas and also talking about babies. She has been very jealous over our wedding and is so desperate to be in a relationship that she seems to have gone for the first guy that has shown any interest in her. I really do pity her at times as if this is the case then I cannot see how you can make a commitment to someone you have only known a couple of weeks- sophie2bgilliesAUTOR@essex_bride that's just the thing-people get engaged far too soon and it just annoys me even though it shouldn't when i don't know them well but i just know that i'm going to hear soon enough that they have broken up and it won't be a surprise! I sound so boring as its a really exciting time and i was over the moon but I knew it meant i was going to be spending the rest of my life with my h2b and people need to take the commitment seriously! You can't possibly know each other well enough after a couple of months!

kirstydoll3Completely agree! Some people just get jealous and just want the ring. Someone I used to be friends with was exactly the same after I got engaged, and she asked me several times to see my ring and what carat it was, how much it was worth etc. Her and her boyfriend fight all the time and he has honestly punched her in the face more than once, now she is engaged ti him! When you ask her when shes gettin married she says shes not interested in planning a wedding. I find it strange! The only thing shes mentioned was "omg I got my ring valued and its worth a fortune!" I cant be bothered with that kind of people! x
